DIY Camera Bag

So I tackled my very first pretty huge DIY project before our big vacation. I am pretty happy with the results (for my first time). I wanted to be able to carry my purse & camera all in one instead of lugging around two bags at the same time. So I found this awesome idea here diy-camera-pursebag.

I just used a purse I already had ( I have more than I'd like to admit) and measured every inch where I wanted foam. Went to Joanns and got some fabric on sale & the foam I wanted and sewed away. I was kind of on a time crunch so instead of doing velcro to switch out the foam I just hot glued it inside to keep the foam from moving around.

the inside of my purse. I did give up the two side pockets at the top of the picture to glue the foam in, but I left an open space where the zipper pocket is...kind of like a hidden pocket.

My foam pieces all measured & cut

So like I said before, I was on a time crunch so I just wrapped the foam in the fabric and sewed the three sides.

Then I just cut off the excess fabric

AND, the finished product!!! I think it looks pretty cute. I have a perfect little spot where my camera fits snug. Plus I had room for a small clutch to hold my lip gloss, ID & credit cards and then a small area for lotion & hand sanitizer. A plus, this purse has a pocket divider so I was able to put our extra lens and our remote control in there with out them falling out. Can I just say this was a life saver for vacation. This will make it so much easier to take the camera to family events because all you have to do is grab your purse!!

Things I would have done differently:
Choose a purse with better structure, this is more of a boho purse so it doesn't hold a great shape, even tho I hot glued the foam in the foam still moved with the purse, I would have preferred a more boxy feel.
With more time I would have made it look a little bit nicer...ie~ measure out the fabric perfectly to give it more of a professional look and not so thrown together.
